Metronome All-Stars
Metronome All-Stars was an American All-Star lineup of swing and modern jazz, which was held only for LP recordings and some concerts in New York City.
History
The magazine Metronome belonged in the 1940s next to the downbeat and the Esquire of the leading jazz magazines of the United States. Editors were George T. Simon and Barry Ulanov. Between 1939 and 1961 annual reader surveys, so-called polls were held; from the winners in the respective instrument categories 1939-42, 1946-1948, 1949-1951, 1953 and again in 1956 each All-Star formations were compiled, mostly as received two sides of the plate in sessions. The early winners were first swing - oriented musicians; the eventual winners were part of the most famous musicians of the bebop and cool jazz, such as Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and Charlie Parker, and Stan Getz and Lennie Tristano.
