Metropolitan Borough of Hackney

The Metropolitan Borough of Hackney was a district in the metropolitan area of the British capital London, with the status of a metropolitan borough. It existed from 1900 to 1965 and was in the north- east of the former county of County of London.

History

Hackney was originally a civil parish in the county of Middlesex. As of 1855, the village belonged to the catchment area of the administration union Metropolitan Board of Works. 1889 Hackney came to the County of London, eleven years later, the conversion was followed in a metropolitan borough. This led to smaller boundary settlements with the surrounding districts of Stoke Newington, Shoreditch and Bethnal Green. Another Border Adjustments made in 1908 with Tottenham.

At the foundation of Greater London in 1965 arose from the merger of the Metropolitan Boroughs of Hackney, Shoreditch and Stoke Newington London Borough of Hackney.
