Metropolitan Borough of Poplar

The Metropolitan Borough of Poplar was a district in the metropolitan area of the British capital London, with the status of a metropolitan borough. It existed from 1900 to 1965 and was in the eastern part of the former county of County of London.

History

The district originated from the Civil parishes Bow, Bromley and Poplar, which were originally located in the county of Middlesex and were summarized in Poplar District, an administrative community. As of 1855, the municipalities belonging to the catchment area of ​​the Zweckverbandes Metropolitan Board of Works. In 1889, she came to the County of London, eleven years later, the merger followed a metropolitan borough.

At the foundation of Greater London in 1965 arose from the merger of the Metropolitan Boroughs Bethnal Green, Poplar and Stepney the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
