Metropolitan Borough of Stoke Newington

The Metropolitan Borough of Stoke Newington was a district in the metropolitan area of the British capital London, with the status of a metropolitan borough. It existed from 1900 to 1965 and was in the northern part of the former county of County of London.

History

Stoke Newington was originally a civil parish in the county of Middlesex. As of 1855, the village belonged to the catchment area of the administration union Metropolitan Board of Works. 1889 came to Stoke Newington County of London. On the territory of this municipality, there were three enclaves with a total area of 0.9 km ². These formed the municipality of South Hornsey, for the time being still remained at Middlesex. In 1900, Stoke Newington and South Hornsey were eventually fused to form a metropolitan borough.

At the foundation of Greater London in 1965 arose from the merger of the Metropolitan Boroughs of Hackney, Shoreditch and Stoke Newington London Borough of Hackney.
