Production and representation
Metsulfuron methyl, by reaction of O - Sulfomoylbenzylbenzoat with ethyl chloroformate and 2-amino -4-methoxy -6-methyl -1 ,3,5-triazine are obtained.

Metsulfuron methyl is a colorless solid which is soluble in water. It decomposes rapidly under acidic conditions.
Use
Metsulfuron methyl is used as an active ingredient in pesticides. It is used as a herbicide against broadleaf weeds.
Metsulfuron methyl is since July 2001 in the European Union of an eligible crop protection agent for use as herbicide. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland pesticides are approved with this drug.
