Metten is located in the Donau-Wald.

History

The Benedictine Abbey of St. Michael in Metten was founded in 766 and was since the year 788 royal monastery. The monastery belonging to the venue received in 1051 by Emperor Henry III. the right to the (then) three days of Pentecost and the Feast of St. Michael to hold a fair with customs, spell and zwing. Although Metten was after 1246 again part of the Duchy of Bavaria, but made until the secularisation of Bavaria in 1803 a closed Hofmark under the lordship of the monastery. Due to the municipality edict of 1818 Metten was an independent municipality in 1818. At the head of the community was a community leader who presided over the church board. The community leaders and the community representative were determined every three years by indirect suffrage ( electoral system ). 1830, the monastery was re-established. The place Metten experienced after the Second World War by expellees a strong population growth and in 1966 raised to the market town.

In the town were 1970 3.154, 1987, 3680 and 2000 counted 4,104 residents a year.

Mayor

Mayor Erhard Radlmaier (CSU ). He was confirmed in 2002 successor of Ludwig Schmid ( SPD) and 73.2 % in the local elections in March 2008, in office.

The municipal elections on 2 March 2008 yielded the following results:

  • CSU: 53.3 % and 9 seats
  • SPD: 24.0 % and 4 seats
  • CDU: 22.7 % and 3 seats

Economy and infrastructure

There were 1998 in the field of agriculture and forestry five, 374 in manufacturing and in trade and transport 154 persons work at the workplace.
