Mettermich

The Mettermich is 585 m above sea level. NN high hill in the Brückenauer Kuppenrhön and is located in the Bavarian part of the Central Mountains.

Geographical location

The Mettermich rises in the district of Bad Kissingen between Oberleichtersbach and Schildeck, a district of Schondra, which is located 2 kilometers south-southeast of the mountain.

Geology

As the neighboring Dreistelz or Schildecker knoll heard the Mettermich to the typical basaltic cones of the Rhön. Strikingly, the basalt stone cobbles, which are components of prehistoric hillfort systems by researchers at Mettermich opinion.

History

On the Mettermich there were early findings from the La Tène period. Presumably, this is a defensive structure or a Fliehburg. Other interpretations speak of a Celtic cult plant.
