This and That

  • The name Mevagissey goes back to the original place name St Meva and St Issey, which was first mentioned in 1313. Archaeological finds from the Bronze Age, however, suggest that it previously settled by humans in Mevagissey.
  • An island of greenery in Mevagissey is popularly called " Hitler 's Walk " ( Hitler's walk ). It was so named after a local council from the 1930s, who got his nickname after the dictator, because he paced the boats moored in the harbor in an exaggerated officious manner and inspected.
