Mevalonate kinase
- OMIM: 251170
- UniProt: Q03426
The mevalonate kinase (MK) is the enzyme that catalyzes the phosphorylation of mevalonate in eukaryotes, a sub-step in the biosynthesis of isoprenoids. MK is localized in the cytosol of peroxisomes. In humans, mutations in the MVK gene can cause hereditary mevalonate kinase deficiency and Hyperimmunoglobulinemia D type.
Catalyzed reaction
ATP ADP ⇔
R- mevalonate is converted to 5 -phospho -R - mevalonate.
