Mevastatin, also compactin, is a drug from the group of statins for the treatment of dyslipidemia. It was the first HMG -CoA reductase inhibitor that was in the 1970s isolated from Penicillium citrinum.
Mevastatin is not used in the treatment of dyslipidemia, as it has many side effects. However, it is used as a starting compound for the preparation of other statins, such as pravastatin.
