Mexican Stock Exchange

The Bolsa Mexicana de Valores ( BMV ) is the only stock exchange in Mexico. Its registered office is located on the Paseo de la Reforma in downtown Mexico City.

Legal form

The Mexican Stock Exchange is under the legal form of a Sociedad Anonima de Capital Variable Bursatil ( SAB de CV). Literally translated, this represents an anonymous variable capital stock exchange company and virtually the legal form of a corporation.

Exchange

The trading on the BMV Mexican Stock Exchange is subject to the law Ley de Bolsas Reglamentaria of 1975.

Inspectorate for Mexican banks and the stock market is the Comisión Nacional de Valores y Bancaria.

History

The origins of the Mexican Stock Exchange go back to the year 1886, when the Bolsa Mercantil de México was founded in Mexico City. A further step was taken in 1908 with the founding of the Bolsa de Valores de México.

Today's BMV was founded in 1933 and received its currently valid name in 1975 when the stock markets of Guadalajara and Monterrey have been integrated.
