Meynes

Meynes is a commune with 2384 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Gard of the Languedoc -Roussillon region.

Geography

The municipality is located seven kilometers from the Pont du Gard and 23 km from Uzès. The closest major cities of Arles and Avignon in 20 kilometers away and the nearby Nîmes.

History

From Roman times, there are still many traces, including graves and furniture. In the church there is an age from the 5th or 6th century. In the Middle Ages the church by the Marquis of Monteynard ( Isère ) was dependent. The castle of the village was looted in 1562 during the Wars of Religion of the Protestants.
