Mezhdusharsky Island

Meschduscharski (Russian Междушарский остров ) is the third largest island of belonging to Russia Novaya Zemlya archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. It belongs administratively to the Arkhangelsk Oblast and is uninhabited.

Geography

Meschduscharski is 2 km off the southwest coast of the South Island of Novaya Zemlya significantly larger and thus in the Barents Sea. The island is about 53 km long, up to 25 km wide and has an area of 742 km ². The landscape of only up to about 100 m high island is characterized by interspersed with many small lakes and ponds tundra.
