MFO-Park

The MFO Park is a public park on the site of the former Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon in Neu- Oerlikon district in Zurich.

Designed by the Community Planning Burckhardt Partner and Raderschall architects Park is distinguished by its modern and unusual design. The park consists mainly of a large, planted metal scaffold that is artfully illuminated at night. The steel structure is 100 m long, 35 m wide and 17 m high, and thus takes the dimensions of the Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon. In the skeleton Rank hurry, Planters, stairs, galleries and balconies are suspended. The sun deck on the roof offers a panoramic view of Zurich -Nord. The park runs through expressive seasonal phases: In winter, the design of the framework is revealed with the trellises, which disappears during the course of the growing season among blooming and green layers. With the creation of the park on the 0.9 hectare site was started in 2001; it was opened in 2002. The second part of the design concept, an open hall side upstream space with berankten stelae is not yet executed.
