MGP Nordic

The MGP Nordic ( Melodi Grand Prix Nordic) is an international song contest for children 8-15 years. Participating countries are the Scandinavian countries of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, and Finland. The transmitters are responsible DR, NRK, SVT and FST5.

History

The MGP Nordic was originated in Denmark and was then called Unsat melodi grand prix. After two years, Norway and Sweden joined the contest and got its present name. Each participant was allowed to send three candidates in the race, so the number of participants was nine. 2007 Finland also joined in the contest. Since then, only two candidates per country are allowed, which corresponds to a total of a candidate number of eight.

2003 arose from the MGP Nordic Junior Euro Song Contest. From this point it was allowed all the countries of Europe to participate. By 2005, therefore the MGP Nordic was on ice. In 2006, the Nordic countries have decided to withdraw from the competition and to call the MGP to life.
