Miag-ao, Iloilo

Miagao (Filipino: Bayan ng Miagao, Hiligaynon: Sangguniang Bayan Miagao ) is a metropolitan area municipality in the province of Iloilo on Panay Island in the Philippines. It has 64 545 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ) living in 119 barangays. It belongs to the first class of income communities in the Philippines and is described as partly urban.

Geography

Miagao is located on the south coast of Panay Island, on the coast of the Gulf of Panay. The capital of the province, Iloilo City, located about 40 km northeast of the community and can be reached via the coastal road from there by bus or jeepney. The neighboring municipalities are San Joaquin in the West, Igbaras in the Northeast and Guimbal in the east. The topography of the municipality is governed by a gently undulating landscape, which merges into the Central Panay Mountains in the north.

Attractions

In the township the Church of Santo Tomas de Villanueva stands that count since 1993, three other churches, under the title Baroque churches in the Philippines, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
