Mianyang
The city of Mianyang (Chinese绵阳 市/绵阳 市, pinyin Mianyang Shì ) is a prefecture-level city in north China's Sichuan province. It is located on the middle reaches of the river Fu Jiang and on the Baoji - Chengdu railway line. Mianyang has an area of 20,281 square kilometers and counts 5,290,000 inhabitants ( 2004). The capital and seat of government is the city Fucheng County (Chinese涪城 区, pinyin Fucheng Qū ).
2008 earthquake
The city was taken on May 12, 2008 by a major earthquake.
Administrative Divisions
The prefecture-level city of Mianyang is made at the county level from two districts, one independent city, five counties and an autonomous district. These are:
- City District Fucheng (涪城 区Fucheng Qū ) 597 km ², approximately 620,000 inhabitants,
- Municipality Youxian (游仙区Youxian Qū ) 973 km ², approximately 510,000 inhabitants,
- Jiangyou City (江油 市Jiangyou Shì ) 2720 km ², about 870,000 inhabitants,
- Santai county (三台 县Santai Xiàn ) 2661 km ², approximately 1,460,000 inhabitants,
- Circle Yanting (盐亭 县Yanting Xiàn ) 1645 km ², approximately 590,000 inhabitants,
- An County (安县Ān Xiàn ) 1404 km ², approximately 510,000 inhabitants,
- Circle Zitong (梓潼 县Zǐtóng Xiàn ) 1438 km ², approximately 380,000 inhabitants,
- Circle Pingwu (平武县Píngwǔ Xiàn ) 5974 km ², approximately 190,000 inhabitants,
- Beichuan Qiang Autonomous County of (北 川 羌族 自治县Beichuan qiāngzú Zizhixian ) 2869 km ², approximately 160,000 inhabitants.
Attractions
The tower (阙Què ) of Pingyang (平阳 府君 阙Pingyang fǔjūnquè ) Prefecture since 1961 is on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( 1-52 ).
