Micah Joseph Lebensohn

Micha Josef life son (also called short Michal = MI Kohen life son, born February 22, 1828 in Vilnius, † February 17, 1852 ) was a Hebrew poet and translator in the Hebrew language.

Life

Micha Josef life son was taught by his father, the Hebrew poet and enlightener Abraham Dob life son, in the Bible, Talmud, profane sciences and languages. A very early established tuberculosis of the Son and the prospect of a not -too-distant death drove this once in a nihilistic pessimism. In 1847 he moved to Berlin, where he met Leopold Zunz and Schelling heard of life son now strengthened further developed belief in the direction of pantheism. 1851 returned life son back to Vilna, where he, not even 24 years old, died a year later.

Micha Josef life son translated various works of world literature (especially Classical antiquity - such as particularly a paraphrase of the Aeneid projecting - and Weimar Classicism ) to the Hebrew, but also turned on the insistence of his friends biblical materials ( here deserves especially his best epic Schlomo we- Ecclesiastes mention ) to. His high- seal was not earmarked or sentimental philosophizing - how often his father - but pure poetry in which makes the influence of Heine contends.

The father gave life son 's death a part of the posthumous poems and translations under the title kinnor bat out of Zion. Culture History are also valuable life son's letters. A selection of his complete works was published in 1924 by Verlag Ajanot in Berlin.
