Michael Almereyda

Michael Almereyda (* April 7, 1959 or 1960 in Overland Park, Kansas ) is an American film director and screenwriter.

Life

Almereyda's film debut, the short film A Hero Of Our Time (1985 ) with Dennis Hopper. It was followed by the quirky film Twister (1989 ) with Harry Dean Stanton. Another Girl Another Planet (1992 ) was commissioned by the National Society of Film Critics an honorable mention as a successful experimental film. The black and white vampire film Nadja (1994 ) was produced by David Lynch, who said: "I have this film produced for Michael Almereyda. [ ...] I like to support him, because for me he is one of the best independent New Wave directors in America. "

There followed in 2000 by an adaptation of the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare and in 2005 he filmed the documentary William Eggleston in the Real World on the North American photographer William Eggleston.

Almereyda is the brother of actress Spencer Kayden.

Almereyda got the Fun Trophy at the Gerardmer Film Festival 1994 awarded for Nadja.
