Michael Ancher

Michael Ancher (born 19 September 1849 in Frigaard on Bornholm, † June 9, 1927 at Skagen ) was a Danish Impressionist painter and one of the founders of the artists ' colony in Skagen.

Life and work

The son of the merchant Hans Michael Ancher and Ellen Elisabeth Munch moved to Copenhagen in 1870-71, where he attended first C. V. Nielsen's Drawing School and later the Academy of Art. Ancher debuted in 1874 as a painter and took several long trips, including to Paris and Italy.

1884 could be Ancher in Skagen on the northern tip of Denmark down. Together with his wife, the painter Anna Ancher, and other friends and family members built Ancher the impressionist school of Skagen on. The school used international contacts, but remained committed to Skagen and its caused by the meeting of the North and Baltic special lighting conditions.
