Michael Reed Barratt, M.D. ( Born April 16, 1959 in Vancouver, Clark County, Washington) is an American physician and NASA astronaut.

Training

Barratt 1981 he received a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology from the University of Washington in 1985 and a doctorate in medicine from Northwestern University. Then he specialized in internal medicine, aviation and space medicine. In collaboration with the Wright State University, NASA, and the Wright - Patterson Air Force Base, he reached in 1991 a Master of Science in Aviation and Space Medicine.

Astronauts activity

ISS Expeditions 19 and 20

Michael Barratt was selected as a flight engineer for the ISS Expeditions 19 and 20.

The start to this space flight took place on 26 March 2009 with Soyuz TMA- 14th On 5 June 2009 Barratt carried out his first spacewalk, in which he attached passive antennas for the price- docking system in the Zvezda module together with Gennady Padalka. A second exit took place on 10 June and lasted 12 minutes. He Padalka and away the cover in the docking of the Zvezda module. Both exits were required for docking of the Russian Poisk module that docked to the ISS in November 2009. Barratt returned on 11 October 2009, together with Padalka and the space tourists Guy Laliberté with Soyuz TMA -14 returns to Earth.

STS -133

On September 18, even as he took part in the expedition 20, Barratt was nominated as a Mission Specialist for mission STS -133 to the ISS. The launch took place on 24 February 2011, landing on 9 March. This flight was the last of the space shuttle Discovery.

Private

Michael Barratt is married to Dr. Michelle Lynne Barratt (born Sasynuik ) and the couple have five children. His leisure interests include church and family activities, writing, geocaching, sailing, restoration and maintenance of boats.
