Michael Basman

Michael John Basman ( born March 16, 1946 in St. Pancras, London ) is an English chess player.

With the England team, he participated in Lugano at the Chess Olympiad 1968. He took on the second reserve board 6.5 points from 11 games ( 5 = 3, -3). Michael Basman, whose father came from Armenia, lived in the early 1970s in Yerevan and won the city championship there. He received in 1980 awarded by the FIDE International Master title.

Basman is known for his unorthodox handling of the opening, he often plays variants such as the St. George - defense or attack Grob. He is the author of several books about these openings.
