Michael Blake (author)

Michael Blake ( born July 5, 1945 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina ) is an American author and screenwriter. He was particularly known for the adaptation of his novel The Dances with Wolves for the eponymous film, which won the Oscar.

Life

Blake spent his early years in Texas before his family moved to Southern California, where they lived in different places. With the letter he began when he was stationed at Walker Air Force Base, where he worked on the in-house newspaper. Blake studied journalism at the University of New Mexico and graduated from film school in Berkeley, where he wrote the first scripts. He also visited the Eastern New Mexico University in Portales.

In the late 1970s he moved to Los Angeles. In the 1980s, only one of his screenplays was filmed. The strip Consenting had the young Kevin Costner in the title role, who convinced him in 1986 to write down the idea of a history with Indians - it was the book The Dances with Wolves, for which he also wrote the screenplay. The film was a great success and received in addition to numerous other awards seven Oscars.

In the years after Blake went on writing, but became involved in addition also charitable. This work has been honored with various awards including the Eleanor Roosevelt Award for work with minorities. His books had the conquest of the Wild West, Indians and the Air Force on the subject. Their 2001 release, The Holy Road, the sequel to The Dances with Wolves. He is currently working on the screenplay adaptation of this book.

Blake is married since 1993 and has three children. He lives on a ranch in southern Arizona.
