Michael Bordt

Michael Bordt SJ ( born April 28, 1960 in Hamburg ) is a German Jesuit and philosopher with research interests in Plato and Aristotle. Since 2011 he is Director of the Institute for Philosophy and Leadership.

Life

Michael Bordt studied after high school and community service in Hamburg from 1981 to 1983 Theology at the University of Hamburg and between 1983 and 1985 at the Philosophical - Theological College of St. Georgen, Frankfurt. After the bachelor's degree, he moved to philosophy, which he studied from 1985 at the School of Philosophy, Munich until 1988 and graduated with a master's degree in philosophy with a thesis on the concept of Being in Plato's Sophist.

In 1988 he entered the Jesuit order, finished his theological studies in 1990 to 1992 at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich and from 1992 to 1993 at the Philosophical - Theological College of St. Georgen, Frankfurt. In 1994 he went to Oxford University and became a doctorate in 1997 with a commentary on Plato's Lysis. His supervisor was Michael Frede. In 1999 he founded the Munich Aristotle Circle, 2001/2 took him a research fellowship at Princeton University and in 2003 he completed his habilitation at the University of Fribourg with a monograph on Plato's theology.

Since 1997 Bordt works at the School of Philosophy in Munich, from 2004 as a professor of aesthetics, philosophical anthropology, and history of philosophy (focus Antiquity). From 2005 to 2011 was Bordt President of the School of Philosophy, since 2011 he has worked as Head of the Institute of Philosophy and Leadership whose mission is to support education and training of executives in top positions in addition to teaching and research.

Work

Bordts philosophical efforts are aiming to discuss the ancient philosophy existential questions of human existence by recourse to discussions within analytic philosophy (particularly Wittgenstein) and.

Besides his work as a professor, he gives lectures and workshops for managers in top positions in business, politics and church on values-based Leadership in business, leadership ethics, Authentic Leadership, etc. meditation courses and retreats.
