Michael Broadbent

Michael Broadbent ( born 2 May 1927 in Yorkshire, England ) is a British wine critic. He is considered one of the most influential journalists and authors in the world of wine.

Life

Broadbent went through in 1952 qualified as a wine merchant. Even then he put on his first wine notebook. These records having tasted by him weeping, he continues to this day. This includes date, occasion, place and the names of the wines, as well as a brief description of the three criteria appearance, nose and taste. By 2004, he had claimed to have over 85,000 items in 133 collected " ribbon ".

He finished his training in 1960 from the title Master of Wine. From 1966 to the 1990s, he was Senior Director of the wine department of the prestigious auction house Christie's in London.

Besides his work as an author to wine topics, he is a regular contributor to the international wine magazine Vinum Tasting Notes and published monthly in the British magazine Decanter.

Moreover, Broadbent is also a frequent guest lecturer and conductor of tastings old and rare wines. In 1979 he was appointed a Knight of the Ordre National du Mérite. Since 1986 he has been President of the International Wine & Foods Society and an honorary member of the Academie du Vin de Bordeaux and of several wine brotherhoods in France.
