Michael C. J. Putnam

Michael Courtney Jenkins Putnam ( born September 20, 1933, Springfield, Massachusetts) is an American classical scholar. He is current W. Duncan MacMillan II Professor of Classics at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Iceland. His research interests include Latin literature. He has published about Virgil, Horace, Catullus and Tibullus.

Putnam studied at Harvard University and received his PhD in 1959 on "Patterns of Personality and Imagery in the Poetry of Catullus. " Since 1960 he has taught at Brown University.

About his grandmother Elizabeth Lowell Putnam, he is a member of the wealthy Boston family Lowell, the example also belongs Percival Lowell, founder of the Lowell Observatory.
