Michael Dell

Michael Saul Dell ( born February 23, 1965 in Houston, Texas) is an American entrepreneur and founder of the world's third largest PC manufacturer Dell Inc.

Biography

Training

Michael Dell is the son of an orthodontist and grew up in liberal Jewish, middle-class family. After finishing school, he enrolled in 1983 at the University of Texas at Austin a, with the desire to become a doctor. However, instead of focusing on the study, he devoted himself to trade with IBM PCs.

The company Dell

In 1984 he abandoned his studies to start a business in Austin, Texas. With a colleague at his university, he moved into some total of 300 m² of office space and hired his first employee. A year later, Dell began with the production of hardware.

In 1988, he transformed his company into a joint stock company. He took over the post of the CEO and the Chairman.

On July 16, 2004 Michael Dell joined at the meeting by the Board to the Supervisory Board and became its Chairman. His previous position as CEO, he handed over to Kevin Rollins. In 2006, the Securities and Exchange Commission investigation and prosecutors on suspicion of balance sheet irregularities.

On January 31, 2007 Michael Dell retook the post of CEO.

Dell's investment firm Capital LP acquired MS 2010, the archives of Magnum Photos with about 185,000 images.

Private

Michael Dell is married to Susan Lynn Leiberman since 1989, a fashion designer who founded the fashion brand Phi. They have four children.
