Michael Frontzeck ( born March 26, 1964 in Mönchengladbach ) is a former German football player and current coach.

Career

As a player

Frontzeck was a student at the high school Odenkirchen in Mönchengladbach and began his football career at the SpVg 05/ 07 Odenkirchen. He played from 1982 to 2000 as a left-back in the Bundesliga for Borussia Mönchengladbach ( 1982-1989, 1995/96 and 1999-2000), VfB Stuttgart, VfL Bochum and SC Freiburg and completed in this time 436 Bundesliga games, in which he scored 37 goals. The greatest success of his career was the German championship in the 1991/92 season with VfB Stuttgart. In addition Frontzeck stood in the seasons 95/96 and 96/ 97 in England at Manchester City under contract and played in the 1st and 2nd English league.

In the national team he had 1984-1992 19 missions and it was with the team in the European Football Championship in Sweden in 1992 Vice European Champion.

As a coach

After his playing career, he was in July 2000, together with Manfred Stefes assistant coach Hans Meyer at Borussia Mönchengladbach and completed at the same time the football teacher training in Cologne, which he passed with distinction. Under Meyer's successor Ewald Lienen he continued his work at Mönchengladbach and was released in September 2003 along with Lengerich.
