Michael Goldberg (painter)

Michael Goldberg ( born December 24, 1924 in New York City, USA, † December 30, 2007 ) was an American painter and printmaker. He is one of the most important representatives of the second generation of American abstract expressionism.

Life

Michael Goldberg studied from 1938 to 1942 and, after an interruption by the Second World War, from 1946 to 1951 at the Art Students League of New York, among others, Hans Hofmann and Jose de Creeft. In addition to these teachers, his artistic development by Robert Matta and Arshile Gorky was affected. The decisive character was to receive from Willem de Kooning and its expressive color scheme but his art. Goldberg's got art from the 1950s international attention. It was in 1959 at the documenta 2 in Kassel year.

He was married to the sculptor Lynn circulation.
