Michael Jeter

Michael Jeter ( born August 26, 1952 in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, USA, † 30 March 2003 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American actor.

Life

Jeter graduated from Memphis State University. After off-Broadway engagements he played in 1978 in Once in a lifetime on Broadway. The following year he was awarded the Theatre World Award and had a role in the musical based on the eponymous movie Hair. Other roles he had throughout his career in such diverse films as Jacob the Liar, Waterworld, The Green Mile or Terry Gilliam's The Fisher King. In addition to guest appearances in television series such as Lou Grant or picket fences, he had a recurring role as an assistant coach in Daddy gives us all with Burt Reynolds in the lead role for which he was honored with a 1992 Emmy Award. In 1990, he had already received a Tony Award for his performance in the Broadway musical Grand Hotel.

Jeter lived openly homosexual. In 1997 he was diagnosed as HIV positive, he died in 2003 at an epileptic seizure.
