Michael Koch (basketball)

Michael Koch ( born January 13, 1966 in Lich ) is a German basketball coach and player As an alumnus of one of the most successful national team in Germany. He won among others the European Championship in 1993 and eleven national and international titles.

Cook began his career as a player in the Bundesliga with 17 years in his native MTV 1846 Giessen, before he then moved to Steiner Bayreuth. In the Bayreuth time he twice won the German Cup and German Cup. However, he had his greatest successes with TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen, where he was five times German champion and twice further Cup winner. In 1993, he won the European title even with the German national team. 1995 Koch was elected by the journal Basketball Player of the Year ( Germany ). Since the season 2005/2006 Michael Koch worked as a trainer at the Telekom Baskets Bonn; first as an assistant coach, after their split from trainer Daniel Jusup he was Head Coach of the Bonn Baskets. In the 2007/2008 season, he led the Telekom Baskets Bonn from after victories over the Cup Winners Cup and favorites Artland Dragons in the quarter- finals and the German Bank Skyliners Frankfurt in the semifinals sensational finals of the German Championship against ALBA Berlin. In the final, they lost the basketball team from the capital to the play-off series with 1:3. In 2009, Koch 's team that had finished fourth in the main round, again in the play-off final, where they lost to the EWE Baskets Oldenburg 2:3.

In May 2013, the Shareholders' Meeting of Telekom Baskets Bonn announced that it will not renew the contract with Koch. Koch was until then the eight seasons in the years 2006-2013 senior, always working only with a club head coach of the National Basketball League. On December 29, 2013 Koch was introduced as the new head coach of Medi Bayreuth, he takes over on 1 January 2014, the Office.
