Michael L. Fitzgerald

Michael Louis Fitzgerald MAFR ( born August 17, 1937 in Walsall, United Kingdom ) is a Vatican diplomat and Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Fitzgerald is a member of the "White Fathers" became known, was founded by Cardinal Charles Lavigerie in 1868 Missionary Society of the Missionaries of Africa. He received on 3 February 1961, the ordination.

On 16 December 1991, Michael Louis Fitzgerald was appointed by Pope John Paul II, titular bishop of Nepte. He received his episcopal consecration the pope on 6 January 1992 in St. Peter's Basilica. More than ten years he held the post of Secretary in Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, until he was appointed on 1 October 2002 Titular Archbishop and appointed as successor of Francis Cardinal Arinze, President of the Council. On February 15, 2006 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. Apostolic Nuncio to Egypt and Permanent Observer of the Arab League.
