Michael Landau

Michael Landau ( born June 1, 1958 in Los Angeles ) is an American guitarist, studio musician and songwriter.

Career

He has supported many stars of the American rock and pop scene when recording or compositions, such as Steve Lukather, Richard Marx, Pink Floyd, Chicago, Cher, Joni Mitchell, Michael McDonald and Rod Stewart. However, other well-known artists in the pop and rock music often engage him; he has worked among others on albums by Jennifer Lopez, Seal, Anastacia, Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion, Madonna, Michael Bolton, Teri DeDario, Vasco Rossi or Mariah Carey.

But Landau also operates its own projects, such as the band Burning Water and The Raging Honkies, with whom he released six albums. Michael Landau is close friends since school days with Steve Lukather. Both have some very similar guitar style. His brother Teddy Landau, bassist for Burning Water, the Raging Honkeys and many of his solo projects, is married to singer Michelle Branch.

Style

One of his trademarks are his " Magic Chords " - by Volume Weller / pedal " hineingeschwebte " chords / chord radicals or single notes, and thus give some passages of a song an " angelic " Hovering an additional effect. Notably, in ballads, such as in the style of Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Michael Bolton, these are recovered. The "Magic Chords " you can very well listen to Landau's first solo album Tales from the Bulge.

As a soloist, Landau is characterized by elegant, soft single-note lines that are basically blue based but have many jazz and fusion elements.
