Michael Landmann

Michael Landmann (born 16 December 1913 in Basel, † January 25, 1984 in Haifa) was a Jewish philosopher Swiss.

Biography

Michael Landmann was a son of the economist Julius countryman and the philosopher Edith Landmann. His brother is the classical philologist Georg Peter Landmann. His parents were among the friends of Stefan George, and they had contact with the George circle.

Because his father in Kiel had been professionally active, compatriot visited in this city from 1927 to 1933 a secondary school. After returning to Switzerland, he studied at the University of Basel, philosophy, psychology and German literature at Herman Schmalenbach, Paul and Walter Häberlin Muschg. In 1939 he obtained his PhD with a thesis on the topic The Socratic ethics as a value. After an Assist joining Schmalenbach and Karl Jaspers to compatriot 1949 Habilitation at Otto Friedrich Bollnow in Mainz. Michael Landmann was from 1951 to 1978 professor of philosophy at the Free University of Berlin. His main field was the philosophical anthropology.

Michael Landmann was married since 1939 with Salcia countryman, born Passweg. Their son is a lawyer Valentin Landmann.
