Michael Lorenz (musicologist)

Michael Lawrence ( born July 18, 1958 in Vienna) is an Austrian musicologist, musician, alpine historian and photographer. He is known as a Mozart expert, especially for its musical history and genealogy research, which is based on archival research.

Career

Lorenz studied cello and oboe at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (Diploma 1990) and musicology at the University of Vienna with Walter pass and Gernot Gruber (PhD 2001). From 2001 to 2005 he was chairman of the International Franz Schubert Institute.

Lorenz was awarded scholarships from the Jubilee Fund of the Austrian National Bank, the Fund for Scientific Research ( FWF ) and the Music & Letters Trust. After he worked on behalf of the Esterházy Foundation, he conducted research on the basis of the grant from the university der Stadt Wien.

Michael Lawrence has published over especially Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert.
