Michael Martin Hammer

Michael Hammer ( born April 13, 1948 in Annapolis, Maryland; † 3 September 2008 in Boston, Massachusetts) was an American economist. Mid-1990s, he was instrumental in the introduction of the concept of re-engineering of business processes.

Michael Hammer studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, mathematics, electrical engineering and computer science. After receiving his doctorate in 1973 he taught computer science.

1987 Hammer Consultant, 1993, he published along with James Champy, the book " Reengineering the Corporation " ( dt, " Business Reengineering: The radical cure for the Company"). In the book he argues that efficiency and productivity can be increased by the fact that all actions are divided into small units and then rearranged. Companies such as Procter & Gamble and Xerox have implemented this approach successfully.
