Michael Moore (Bassist)

Michael Moore ( born May 16, 1945 in Glen Este near Cincinnati ) is an American jazz bassist and composer.

Moore, the son of a jazz guitarist who studied at the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and privately with Frank Proto from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Harold Roberts and Orin O'Brien of the New York Philharmonic bass. In 1966 he joined the Big Band of Woody Herman, with whom he toured in Africa and Eastern Europe. In 1968 he was back in New York and played with Marian McPartland, which started some of his compositions. He was for several years a quintet of Freddie Hubbard and the Gil Evans Orchestra (The Gil Evans Orchestra Plays the Music of Jimi Hendrix 1974). He also played in a quartet of Ruby Braff and George Barnes, Jim Hall, Chet Baker, Lee Konitz ( " Tenorlee " 1977), Jimmy Rowles, Bill Evans, Stan Getz, Benny Goodman and in a trio with the pianist Michael Abene and guitarist Mike Gari. A longtime duo partner is also the guitarist Gene Bertoncini ( " O Grande Amor" 1986). Moore also played in a duo with bassist Rufus Reid and the trio of Michal Urbaniak ("My one and only love" 1981). He was a member of the Dave Brubeck Quartet, whose leader died in December 2012.

He taught at William Patterson College and Long Iceland University.
