Michael Nylander

Michael Nylander ( born October 3, 1972 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player who is under contract with AIK Stockholm in the Svenska Hockey ligands, since February 2014. His son William is also hockey players.

Career

Michael Nylander began his career in 1989 in Sweden in the 1st Division at Huddinge IK, for whom he played for two years. In the NHL Entry Draft in 1991, he was selected by the Hartford Whalers in the third round at position 59. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Elitserien, the highest league in Sweden, AIK Stockholm and was elected to after the season for rookie of the year the Elitserien. After only one year at AIK Nylander went to North America.

The 1992/93 season he completed mostly at the Hartford Whalers in the NHL and had only four games into the farm team in the AHL. During the 1993/94 season he was transferred from the Whalers to the Calgary Flames.

As the season was started in 1994/95 only in January 1995, because it had come to a lockout, Nylander played the first few months in the Finnish SM- liiga for JYP Jyvaskyla, but later returned to Calgary.

1996 Nylander left the Calgary Flames because you could not agree on a new contract. He decided to go and play for HC Lugano in the Swiss National League A. In 36 games, he scored 55 points. In the summer of 1997 he returned to the Calgary Flames and played for them more and a half years before he was transferred in January 1999 to the Tampa Bay Lightning. A long time he did not stay with the team and in November 1999 he was sent on to the Chicago Blackhawks. In the 2000 /01 season he showed his hitherto best scorer performance in the NHL with 64 points.

After playing for nearly three years in Chicago, he was again part of a business transfer, as it transferred the Blackhawks in November 2002 to the Washington Capitals. There, however, he remained only one and a half years and was released to the Boston Bruins in March 2004. Nylander had in the season can do only 18 games, as he had suffered a knee injury.

In summer 2004, Nylander was a free agent and signed a contract with the New York Rangers, but he still had to wait over a year on its first mission with his new team since the NHL season was canceled in 2004/05 because of a lockout. Instead Nylander played in the season in the Finnish SM -Liiga for Kärpät Oulu, as well as in the Russian Super League for Ak Bars Kazan and SKA St. Petersburg.

Then started his first season with the Rangers and also the most successful of his career in the fall of 2005. With 79 points in 81 games he put up a personal best. In the season 2006/ 07 he was able to surpass this again, scoring 83 points, he particularly benefited from this that he was playing with Jaromir Jagr in a row. In the playoffs, he was even the top scorer of the Rangers with 13 points in ten games. When the Rangers but after the season with Chris Drury and Scott Gomez committed two competitors for the center position, they extended the contract of Nylander not, whereupon he returned to the Washington Capitals.

In mid-December 2012, he briefly moved to Italy for HC Bolzano, but returned in January 2013 back to Sweden and played in the sequence for the Södertälje SK. In August of the same year he was obliged by Rögle BK, for whom he played until mid-December 2013.

Internationally

Nylander represented his country in both the junior and senior level.

With a junior he won the gold medal at the Junior World Championship 1992, the silver medal at the European Junior Championships in 1990. In addition, Nylander was awarded following the World Youth Championship as top scorer and elected to the All- Star team after he had scored the most points, goals and assists all players. The top scorer was parted, but with Markus Naslund Jan Čaloun and Jarkko Varvio. Furthermore Nylander also played at the Junior World Championship in 1991.

In the senior Nylander graduated from 1992-2010 a total of ten World Championships, two Winter Olympic Games and the World Cup of Hockey 1996. Between 1992 and 2006, Sweden became world champions respectively. He also won in 1993 and 1997, the Silver Medal and in 1999, 2002 and 2010 the bronze medal. In the 1997 World Series Nylander was named best forward and elected to the All- Star team of the tournament; In 1993 he shared the title of best original encoder with Andrei Chomutow, Shayne Corson, Dave Manson and Paul Kariya.
