Michael Oenning ( born September 27, 1965 in Coesfeld ) is a former German football player and current coach.

Career

Michael Oenning completed a teaching degree in the subjects German and sports. He worked from 1999 to 2004 as head coach of the Württemberg Football Association. From 2000 to 2004, he was also on the coaching staff of the German U -18 and U-20 youth national teams. During the 2002 World Cup, he worked for Premiere as a partner of the television journalist Marcel Reif.

His first stop in club football was the assistant coach under Dick Advocaat at Borussia Mönchengladbach 2004-2005. Then Oenning was in the years 2005 to 2007 as assistant coach Holger Fach and his successor Klaus Augenthaler at VfL Wolfsburg worked, where he for a game took over the duties of head coach. From the summer of 2007, he oversaw the U19 Juniors of VfL Bochum. This contract he broke after a few months in early 2008 and accepted an offer of 1.FC Nuremberg.

On 12 February 2008 was Oenning assistant coach Thomas von Heesen at the 1 FC Nuremberg. After his resignation, he led on 31 August 2008 in the 2-2 draw against Alemannia Aachen his first game as a responsible club coach. A week later, he received a contract as head coach until 30 June 2009, which was extended in January 2009 to 30 June 2011. Under Oenning the " Club" succeeded after two wins in the relegation matches against Energie Cottbus in the summer of 2009, the re-emergence in the Bundesliga. After completing the 1st FC Nuremberg had completed the first half of the Bundesliga season 2009/ 10 with the last but one, Oenning was suspended on 21 December 2009 as a coach. He was succeeded by Dieter Hecking.

Since the season 2010/11 Oenning was engaged as Assistant coach Armin Veh at Hamburger SV. After a leave of absence from Armin Veh on March 13, 2011, he took over along with the head coach of HSV II Rodolfo Esteban Cardoso, the team first interim basis until end of season.

28 April 2011 Oenning signed a new two-year contract as head coach until 30 June 2013. According to seasonally across 13 winless league games Michael Oenning was released on 19 September 2011 at the mutual consent as head coach. The HSV was at this time with just one point after six games at the end of the Bundesliga table.
