Michael Rich (cyclist)

Michael Rich ( born September 23, 1969 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a retired German racing cyclist.

Rich drove since 1999 for the German pro team Gerolsteiner cycling team and is regarded as a time trial specialist. Previously, he was employed by the teams RVC Reute, RSV Oeschelbronn, Histor - Oeschelbronn, Schauff - Oeschelbronn and Saeco, but also drove in 1994 with a trainee license for Team Telekom.

Michael Rich was able to achieve a total of five German championship title in the time trial, most recently in June 2005. At the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992, he was with the 100 - km - road four Olympic champion.

In the time trial World Championship, he reached the second on three occasions ( 2000, 2002, 2004) and third in 2003. At the World Cup on 22 September 2005, he finished a disappointing 15th place for him. He also won the last two sweeps of the French time trial classic GP des Nations in 2003 and 2004. During the Germany tour in 2004 he won the opening time trial by 25 seconds ahead of Jan Ullrich and thus won the yellow jersey, but he 3rd on the stage to the later overall winner Patrik Sinkewitz lost again. His biggest success in tours are winning the Tour de la Somme in 1999 and the Tour of Bavaria in 2002, 2003 and 2005.

In addition to the Tour of Bavaria, in 2005, Rich win the Rheinland -Pfalz- tour. Together with his team mate Markus Fothen, Sven Krauss, Sebastian Lang, Torsten Schmidt and Uwe Peschel, he won the team time trial in Eindhoven with three seconds ahead of the teams from Phonak and CSC. In addition, he reached for the first time in the Tour de France 2005, the objective in Paris, after which he had to give up in the mountains in 2003 and 2004 was not at the start, because he wanted to specifically prepare for his Olympic start in Athens.

In 2006, Michael Rich his retirement from cycling known. He also announced that he will be working among other things as material for the Scout Team Gerolsteiner from 2007.

After the dissolution of the team Gerolsteiner Michael Rich has worked as an editor for the magazine Road Bike, involved in development at Canyon bikes and worked as a team coordinator at PT Belgian Silence-Lotto.

Michael Rich is married, has two children and lives in Emmen things.
