Michael Roberts (Jockey)

Michael Muis Roberts, ( born May 17, 1954 in South Africa ) is a former South African jockey.

The career of Roberts began in his native South Africa, where he spent five years at the South African Academy of jockeys, a breeding ground for many top jockeys. A total of eleven times, he won the title of champion jockeys in his homeland. Roberts came to the UK in 1978 and won there in the same year, 25 wins. He was charged with 206 wins Champion Jockey in the UK in 1992. His 1000th British victory he won in 1994 and he won 3,964 times in his career worldwide. He has won over 25 group races including the Japan Cup in 1995 on Lando.

In September 2001, he had a bad fall with the back spine injury that ended his career, but also his new career as a coach ushered in Wolverhampton.
