Michael Scheuer (kayaker)

Michel Scheuer ( born May 20, 1927 in Rodange, Luxembourg ) is a former German canoeist and canoe coach. He was Olympic champion in 1956 in the double kayak.

Scheuer won at the Olympic Games in 1952 and 1956 respectively the bronze medal in the one - kayak over 10,000 m. The 1956 Olympic Games ended for him by winning the gold medal in the double kayak over 1,000 m with Meinrad Miltenberger. In the same discipline he had become at the Canoe Sprint World Championships in 1954 with Gustav Schmidt second. The Canoe Racing World Championships 1958 he won with Gustav Schmidt, Georg Lietz and Theo Small titles in four-man kayak over 1,000 and 10,000 m. In German Championships he won two titles in 1952 and 1954 one kayak.

He was a member of the canoe sports club Bertasee Duisburg and led there by the end of his career youth and senior training. Today he lives in Krefeld. Previously, he received both the Silver Laurel Leaf and the Golden Badge of Honor of the German Canoe Federation ( DKV).
