Michael Schottenberg

Michael Schottenberg (* July 10, 1952 in Vienna) is an Austrian actor, director and theater director.

Biography

Schottenberg received his training as an actor 1971 - 1974 at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Since then he has worked in numerous roles at various theaters in Vienna and Berlin. Since 1978 he works as a director. Among other things, he designed the " Piaf tour " for his wife Maria Bill.

In addition Schottenberg interacts with both as an actor and as a director in theater and television films.

In 1984 he founded his own theater, the theater in the head, with which he tries to achieve very close audience presentations. In a specially built theater marquee in front of the Votive Church, he reached with performances of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew (1987) and Ibsen's Peer Gynt (1988 ), more than 20,000 spectators each.

In the fall of 2005, he assumed - as the successor of Emmy Werner - artistic director of the Viennese popular theater. After initial resistance on the part of the press and of the ancestral audience against his ideas, after which the productions of popular theater, not only accepted by both the audience and the critics, but often celebrated.

Schottenberg was for 35 years, married to Mary Bill, 2011 settled the couple divorced. They have one son (* 1988).
