Michael Semanick

Michael Semanick (* 1963) is an American sound engineer.

Life

Semanick studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. During his school years, he volunteered at the Antioch Community Theater in the lighting and sound equipment. After completing his Bachelor of Arts degree, he moved to California and worked in music production, among other things, Saul Zaentz, and worked with Joe Satriani, Todd Rundgren and MC Hammer. From the early 1990s, he joined the film industry, worked there but occasionally still in the music business, so he mixed the music for the 1996 feature film The English Patient from.

Semanick worked on the complete The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. For this, he was first nominated twice for an Oscar. He finally won the Oscar in 2004 for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. He later also worked on Peter Jackson's next film project, King Kong, for which he was awarded in 2006 with his second Oscar.

Semanick lives with his wife and three children in Marin County.
