Michael Shermer

Michael Shermer ( born September 8, 1954 in Glendale, California) is an American science writer, historian of science and founder of the Skeptics Society.

Life

Shermer was for 16 years professor of psychology and history of science, and is editor of the magazine and director of the Skeptics Society SKEPTIC in Altadena near Los Angeles. He is the author of several books, including Why People Believe Weird Things (1997) and How We Believe: The Search for God in on Age of Science ( 2000), and published a monthly skeptical column in Scientific American. Michael Shermer is co-organizer of the Race Across America bicycle race. Shermer made ​​mainly as a critic of creationism and Holocaust denier scene a name.

Shermer also was a producer and co-host of a U.S. television series called "Exploring the Unknown ". Since April 2001 he writes the column " Skeptic " for Scientific American, the U.S. edition of Scientific American. He admits to have once been a fundamentalist Christian, however, to have come loose during his training from God faith. He has described himself as an agnostic, non- theist and atheist, as a representative of humanism and the Science of Morality.
