Michael Steele ( born June 2, 1955 in Pasadena, California; actually Susan Thomas ) is an American musician and former bassist of the pop group Bangles.

Career

The main shots of this period from August 1975 were published only in 1993 on the album Born to Be Bad. Steele played bass and sang most of the songs themselves

Between 1976 and 1983, Steele played in numerous bands from Los Angeles, including Elton Duck ( 1979-1980 ), Slow Children (1979) and Nadia Kapiche (1981). Steele focused on her musical techniques and has established itself as a professional bassist. She was known for her melodic style, influenced by bassists such as Paul McCartney, John Entwistle, Colin Moulding and Carol Kaye.

Albums

Different Light

Although All Over the Place, the debut album from the Bangles, was appreciated by critics, it was not a commercial success. This changed with the album Different Light published in 1986, with the hit singles Manic Monday and Walk Like an Egyptian ( Steele sang the second verse of Walk Like an Egyptian ). On the album sang Steele September Gurls, originally by Big Star and her composition Following. The magazine Rolling Stone praised the song as outstanding.

Everything

The successful album Everything (published in 1988) was their previous studio album of the Bangles, the band split up in 1989. On Everything Steele presented with three original compositions Complicated Girl, Something to Believe In and Glitter Years as a songwriter. Two more of her pieces were not on the album. One was Between the Two, which was published after the reunification of the Bangles on the album Doll Revolution. The second piece, Happy Man Today, remained hitherto unpublished ( though 1987 was played live during the summer tour ).

Solo career and other commitments

After separation of the Bangles in 1989 wrote the lyrics for Steele and recorded songs for a solo album. The solo project failed because their recording contract was terminated prior to completion. Despite this, Steele was musically active. She played in several bands, mostly as Rhythmusgitarristin and singer in her band Crash Wisdom and as a bassist in Michelle Muldrows band Eyesore. In the late 1990s, the Bangles a reunion agreed. Steele was the last one that appealed. In 2003, the album was released Doll Revolution. How Everything the album contains three compositions by Steele (Nickel Romeo, Between the Two, Song for a Good Son ). Early 2005, Steele left the band, exact reasons are not known.
