Michael Steiner

Michael Steiner ( born November 28, 1949 in Munich) is a German diplomat and ambassador since July 2012 in India.

Life

Steiner studied in Munich and Paris law and joined the Foreign Service in 1981. After uses in Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo), New York ( at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations ), Prague and Zagreb coordinated Steiner German participation in the peace efforts in the former Yugoslavia and went from 1996-97 as First Deputy High Representative after Sarajevo.

From 1998 to 2001 he was the Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to the former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder in the rank of Ministerial Director in the Federal Chancellery. After the so-called Kaviar-/Arschloch-Affäre he had to leave this post. From 2002-2003 Steiner was head of the UN Interim Administration in Kosovo. Since 2003 he represented Germany at the United Nations in Geneva. In August 2007, he Reinhard Schweppe followed in this office.

Steiner would then German Ambassador in Warsaw to be, however, prevented a chancellery veto his appointment.
