Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan OBE ( born October 29, 1974 in Eccles, Salford, England ) is an English cricketer. He was up in early August 2008 captain of the England Cricket Team.

Sporting career

Vaughan plays first-class cricket since 1993 in the County Championship for Yorkshire as a batsman ( hitter ) and sometimes referred to as off- spin bowler. In the same year he was inducted into the U-19 national team.

In November 1999 he was appointed to the England team. Especially in the years 2002/3 Vaughan scored several Centuries in Test matches. In the statistics, he was out at this time as the world's best batsman.

Following the departure of the English team in the preliminary round of the Cricket World Cup 2003 Vaughan was captain of the One- Day International team. Two months later, he took over the team lead in Test matches. Apart from a few failures due to injury led over five years the England team as captain.

In the 2005 season, led by Vaughan English team defeated the " arch-rival " Australia and was able to secure for the first time in nearly 20 years, the Ashes trophy to them, however, to lose again as early as the next series in 2006/7 in Australia. In the middle of the 2007 season, Vaughan gave the team leadership of the One- Day International from team because he is the light of several poor personal results wanted to focus more on his skills as a batsman.

No other captain in the history of cricket sport has more victories achieved with the England team as Vaughan. He has reached more than 5,000 runs in test cricket.

In 2008, he again achieved a series of weak results than batsman. After the Test series against South Africa was lost, Vaughan said in early August 2008 his resignation as captain of the national team.

Private life

Vaughan is married and has two children. He is a good golfer and a fan of English football club Sheffield Wednesday. Through its sporting achievements he has already written two books, most recently in November 2005 Calling The Shots.

Awards

In 2003, Vaughan was nominated as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year; at the same time he was ever ready to be the first cricketer on the cover of the 140th edition of Wisden Cricketers ' Almanack.

The Sheffield Hallam University awarded him in August 2005, an honorary doctorate for his services to cricket sport. After the victory in the series against Australia Vaughan was admitted to the New Years ' Honours List 2006 in the Order of the British Empire.
