Michael Walter (luger)

Michael Walter ( born March 12, 1959 in Pirna ) is a former German luger.

Michael Walter was discovered in Zwickau for sledding and delegated in 1973 to Upper Wiesenthal, where he competed for the SC tractor Oberwiesenthal in the following years. In 1976, he debuted at the European Junior Championships and reached there at the events until 1978, two fifth and sixth place. At the 1980 Olympic Games in Lake Placid, he was still substitute. In 1981, he became vice world champion in Hammarstrand behind Sergei Danilin. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Sarajevo, he reached the disappointing fourth place and thus the worst season placement. The World Cup of the year he won sovereign. 1985 was the skilled construction workers to become world champion. The 1988 Olympics in Calgary ran again unsatisfactory with a fifth. After his athletic career Walter studied civil engineering and today operates in Annaberg -Buchholz, a construction company.
