Michael Weller

Michael Weller ( born September 26, 1942 in New York City, New York) is an American playwright and screenwriter.

Life

Michael Weller, born in 1942, the son of artist Paul Weller in New York City, attended the Stockbridge School and Windham College. Later Weller graduated from Brandeis University in the field of music composition. Subsequently, he worked as a jazz pianist and then took a degree in theater at the University of Manchester on. Weller is mainly active as a dramatist and playwright, but worked occasionally as a screenwriter. So 1979 was involved in the musical film adaptation of Hair, followed two years later ragtime. Both films were directed by Miloš Forman and for the latter Weller was nominated for the Best Adapted Screenplay Academy Award for 1982. Following followed only isolated screenplays, in the late 1990s he was involved in some episodes of the series Once and Again as a producer and screenwriter.

Weller was and is also active in the academic field. He is currently a member of the teaching staff of The New School.
